Marriage

Marriage requires two people with different personalities to function as a unit. It takes hard work and if this unit is functional, it can bring great joy. If the marriage unit has problems, it can cause great unhappiness and influence the family and have a large impact on children when they are involved.

When to seek counselling:

  • Before getting married
  • When the marriage is no longer being enjoyed.
  • When adultery occurs.
  • When getting re married.
  • When trust is broken.
  • Violence in the family
  • When a big change occurs that is putting pressure on the marriage.
  • When communication fails.

All marriages have problems at some stage and marriages takes time and effort.

Parenting

Parenting is the most joyful and stressful job a person can ever have. You must make the right decisions for your children and for your family.  Sometimes it is a great balancing act between earning an income and spending time with the family, driving kids around to activities, letting go and setting boundaries.

It might seem from the outside that others have it all sorted. They seem so together. Their kids always have the perfect academic marks, perfect packed lunches, perform in sport, behaves well, perfect hair, their kids somehow stay clean. The list can go on and on. It is important to remember that there is no perfect parent. The best parents make mistakes and learn along the way.

Sometimes counselling is needed to help the parents cope better, set boundaries to agree on how to parent and to realise that not everything can be perfect, and that parenting has good and bad days.
